Frequently Asked (FAQ)
Why is it expensive to only run 1,000 labels?
Printing is a volume driven industry, higher volumes mean lower pricing. Purchasing higher volumes less frequently in a year will reduce your label and packaging costs significantly. Speak to our sales representative about a quantity that will work for your business.
Do you have a minimum order quantity for labels?
Roll form labels require a minimum run of 5,000 labels due to set up materials required during the manufacturing process. We can do as little as 1,000 labels however this is very expensive due to the set up cost being divided into only 1 roll of labels.
Specialized materials have a minimum quantity of 500sqm of material and the minimum quantity would have to be calculated on our estimating program.
What are plates and dies?
The flexographic print process requires a printing polymer or plate for every colour printed, these are mounted onto a print cylinder and during manufacture the plate “stamps” the image onto the substrate, building one colour on top of the other.
A Die is the cutting tool required to cut out the shape of the label from the top sheet and the printer will then strip away the matrix in between the labels leaving only the label on the backing paper.
How many colours can Label Techniques print?
We can print anything from blank labels up to 8 colours for labels, flexible packaging and pouches.
Display boxes are ordinarily printed in 4 process colours but can be printed in pantones at an additional cost.
How long will it take for my packaging order to be produced?
- Self-adhesive labels will take 10-14 working days from date of order received.
- Cartons and display boxes will take 10 working days.
- Packets, doy packs and pouches are 4-8 weeks from receipt of signed artwork.
I don’t have artwork for my packaging, can you assist?
We have an in-house art department that can design your label, packet, pouch or boxes for you at an additional cost. We will receive your detailed brief and submit a quotation for this service. Artwork takes 7-10 working days for first draft designs.
Do you produce environmentally friendly products?
- Our cartons, boxes and display boxes are all biodegradable due it being paper-based.
- Pouches and flexible packaging or plastic packaging is recyclable.
- The top sheet of labels are biodegradable, however the liner is not recyclable at present.
What is your price per square meter?
Due to each product produced by label techniques being bespoke, it is difficult to determine square meter pricing as every product is unique in the vast product range we offer.
Why choose Digital over Flexographic printing?
Digital printing processes create images by depositing solvent ink directly onto on a surface, while flexographic presses use rubber or plastic plates to press ink onto a substrate…
Quick turnaround: Setup is fast and jobs can be completed quickly, as there are no plates to create nor images to change or distort. Digital printing caters for those smaller quantity print runs whereas Flexographic is more for the large print runs.
Does Label Techniques provide artwork services?
Yes, Label Techniques has an in-house Graphic Design department to assist to all your Graphic Design needs.
How long do I have to wait for a quote?
Company policy aims to provide feedback within 24 hours.
What is the best format to submit artwork?
Portable Document Format (PDF) is generally preferred. A pdf file incorporates the information needed to maintain document consistency from one system to another.
Can you print white?
White is not generally considered as a printing colour, as the paper we use is white.
Can Label Techniques digitally print onto t-shirts?
No, label techniques do not specialize in dye-sublimation printing.
